From 2003 to 2008, I was stationed at Fort Drum and had the honor of serving in our nation’s military. During those five years, I deployed to Iraq twice with the 2nd Brigade. Unfortunately, I sustained an injury in 2004 that forced me to leave active duty, which was very disappointing. As I had intended to retire from the military, I was unsure of what to do next. However, the answer presented itself in a completely unexpected way.
In 2008, I founded Byers Property Management to help my military friends who had purchased homes while stationed at Fort Drum. Due to the real estate crash that year, many of them were unable to sell their homes for the price they had paid, and so they required property management services.
Initially, I viewed property management as a way to earn extra income while pursuing my full-time studies with the plan to attend law school. However, in 2009, the business began to expand, and I saw the potential for turning it into a full-time property management company.
Since then, my focus has been on building the best property management company possible. Now in our 18th year, I am proud of what we have achieved with the help of many amazing people.
In 2012, after obtaining my NYS Brokers License, Byers Property Management evolved into Forté Management Group. We have experienced consistent growth since then, and in 2017, we acquired a competitor, which resulted in doubling our size. By 2019, we had doubled our size once again, purely through word of mouth.
People often ask us how we managed to grow so quickly without much advertising, and the answer is simple. We prioritize providing quality property management, with integrity and transparency being our core values.
Property management is a challenging business. We constantly strive to balance the expectations of tenants and property owners/investors, which can often be conflicting. However, this is where we excel – right in the middle. Property management may not be suitable for every realtor, but it’s our niche, and we focus entirely on it.
Although the business can be demanding, I have enjoyed every moment of the journey so far. I take pride in caring for investors’ properties, and I find it fulfilling to help military personnel find a home while stationed at Fort Drum. It’s a great feeling to work with people from all walks of life, helping them find housing that suits their needs. I also love the maintenance challenges that come with managing homes in the harsh weather of Northern New York. Yes, it can be tough, but Forté was built for it.
If you are in the market for a property manager or are searching for a home to lease, please give us a call, and we will demonstrate how we uphold our motto; “Integrity at every doorstep.”
